Plumbers urge conservation and quality during National Drinking Water week

Sarasota, FL (May 5, 2014) - The week of May 4-10 is National Drinking Water week. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that Americans use about 100 gallons of water a day and even though most of the Earth is covered with water, less than one percent (1%) is drinking water.[1] Plumbers with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing work to improve water quality and flow every day in kitchens and bathrooms. We offer these suggestions to consider as we focus on preserving safe, quality drinking water this week and every week:

Look for Leaks

To preserve this limited resource, check inside and outside your home for leaks. Common leak spots are faucets, showerheads, toilets, irrigation systems and garden hoses. Many of these leaks are easy to fix yourself or call a trusted plumber for help.

Watch for Water Waste

Turn off your faucet while brushing your teeth or shaving. Remember showers use less water than baths. A full dishwasher uses less water than washing by hand. When doing laundry, wash only full loads. [2]

Consider an Upgrade

New water heaters are designed to be more efficient and use less energy. Water softening, water filtration and water purification systems are also designed to help improve drinking water quality and help reduce the amount of water you use. The trusted professionals at Benjamin Franklin Plumbing offer a whole house water treatment approach.
