CPL Retail Energy Partners with Food Bank to Fight Childhood Hunger This Summer

Corpus Christi, TX (June 12, 2014) -

WHO/WHAT:

CPL Retail Energy and the Food Bank of Corpus Christi have once again partnered to help fight childhood hunger throughout the community via the Summer Bag program, which provides biodegradable bags filled with nutritious, easy-to-open food for children on weekends throughout summer. The initiative helped feed about 425 children last summer.

"Feeding our community?s children is one of the food bank?s most important missions," said Bea Hanson, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Corpus Christi. "We are very excited to partner again this year with CPL, whose contributions will benefit more than 400 children this summer."

The summer bag program is one of the many initiatives focused on giving back to the communities in which CPL Retail Energy operates. The initiative joins forces with food banks across the state to help fight childhood hunger. Each bag contains six meals for area youth to take home for the weekend, (two breakfasts, two lunches and two snacks) which totals 2500 bags and 10,000 meals over the course of the summer provided by the $10,000 donation from CPL Retail Energy.

"CPL is proud to be a part of this amazing program summer after summer through the Food Bank of Corpus Christi," said David Draper, Commercial Director for CPL South Texas. "Helping children combat hunger is among the more important ways CPL gives back to the Corpus Christi community, and seeing children?s faces light up really makes it all worthwhile."
