Direct Energy Offers Industry's First True Free Weekends Electricity Plan

Houston, TX (October 14, 2015) — Whether it's cramming in a week's worth of laundry or binge watching your favorite TV show, Direct Energy customers can now be at ease doing the things they do around the house over the weekend. The company today launched the Live Brighter Weekends plan that allows customers to enjoy free power all weekend long.

With the Live Brighter Weekends plan, energy consumption is free for Direct Energy customers beginning 6 p.m. Friday until midnight Sunday night. This marks the first time an electricity company has offered a true free weekend plan that begins on Friday evening.

"At Direct Energy, we empower our customers to choose a plan that best fits their lifestyle," said David Draper, general manager for Direct Energy in Texas. " We are excited to offer innovative products like Live Brighter Weekends that are not available anywhere else in the market."

Live Brighter Weekends requires a 12 or 24-month contract with a $135 cancellation fee. During the designated free period, the customer will not be billed for any energy, transmission and distribution delivery charges. Customers who enroll on the plan will continue to be responsible for all charges and applicable taxes on the power used during non-free periods.

This offer is available in certain Texas competitive electricity markets in which smart meters are enabled, including Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Tyler, Waco, Corpus Christi and McAllen. For more information on eligibility, visit www.directenergy.com/free-weekends.
