Direct Energy Reveals New Off-Peak Summer Energy Plan for Duquesne Customers

Houston, TX (May 31, 2016) - Direct Energy®, one of North America's leading energy and energy-related services providers, has partnered with Duquesne Light to offer customers in the Duquesne utility service territory a new electricity Time of Use Program. This pilot program has the potential to save customers on their energy bill, encouraging conservation during the days and times when energy is used the most.

From June 1, 2016, to Sept. 30, 2016, customers who voluntarily enroll in Duquesne Light's Time-of-Use pilot program will have two supply prices: on-peak and off-peak. The higher of the two, the on-peak price, applies during specific weekday afternoon hours, excluding holidays. The lower of the two, the off-peak price, applies at all other times. During all other months of the year, Time-of-Use-enrolled customers will be charged a single around-the-clock "non-summer" price.

"We are always looking for ways to help our customers use less of what we sell, and incorporating this program is a great way to reward our customers for making energy efficient choices," said Manu Asthana, president of Direct Energy Home. "Energy efficient technology can make a meaningful impact on our customers' energy usage and reduce their overall bill. We hope this program will empower our customers to replace older, less efficient bulbs for LED bulbs that are proven to have a longer lifespan and use less energy."

"Customers could potentially see significant savings if they just change their energy use habits during the summer, such as turning up the thermostat in the afternoons when no one is home or waiting until nighttime to run the dishwasher," said Cullen Hay, General Manager, U.S. Energy of Direct Energy. "We are proud to give Duquesne customers a choice when it comes to their electricity provider."

As part of the advanced metering infrastructure project, Duquesne Light provides a free web portal that provides customer usage in hourly increments, helping them better understand when electricity is being used. In addition, the portal provides personalized ideas for saving energy and money. Customers can sign up for the portal at DuquesneLight.com/MyElectricUse.

Additionally, Direct Energy is part of Plenti, the first U.S. coalition loyalty program comprised of widely known companies such as American Express, AT&T, Exxon, Macy's, Mobil, Nationwide, Rite Aid, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Hulu. Plenti offers consumers greater choice and savings potential through a multi-category rewards platform. Duquense residents that choose a Direct Energy plan will automatically receive 1,000 Plenti points.

Eligible customers with an advanced digital meter can enroll until July 28, 2016, and customers can cancel at any time. Customers can enroll in the Time of Use Program by calling 1-844-878-4409.
